An exclusive opportunity to sharpen your skills with top teams like Gamecock Sailing—at no additional cost!
All registered teams competing at the Melges 24 Midwest Spring Championship in Muskegon are invited to take part in a free, hands-on Best Practices Sharing Session hosted by Peter McClennen and his Gamecock team, along with several other top-tier programs. This invaluable opportunity is open to all teams, of all experience levels, and aims to strengthen the fleet by sharing winning strategies, tips, and techniques straight from the best in the class.
📍 Session starts at 12:30 PM on Friday, May 16th at the Muskegon Yacht Club in the Lakeview or Spinnaker Room.
The day’s schedule includes:
Friday, May 16th — Melges 24 Best Practices Sharing Session
Morning – Boat Launching
12:30 PM – Best Practices Session Begins
Helm, trim, and maneuvering insights: Three key tips in each area
Starting strategy discussion
Breakout groups by team roles (helms, trims, bow, etc.) to promote deeper learning and connections
1:15 PM – Dockside Setup Discussion
Getting the rig to base, tension settings, managing setup efficiently
1:45 PM – Dock-Outs & Lineups
2:30 PM – Practice Racing
Focused starts and short-course laps
4:00 PM – Dock Talks
Rig checks, post-practice debrief
4:00 PM – Beer & Brats Social
Continue the conversation with your fellow sailors over some well-earned refreshments
Thanks to the generosity of Gamecock Sailing team and other participating teams, this session is being offered completely free of charge as part of the regatta experience. It’s a rare chance to get up close with top competitors, ask questions, and build lasting knowledge and camaraderie within the class.
Whether you’re a veteran program or just getting started, this session is designed to give every team a leg up—and maybe even a few secrets to sailing faster.
