U.S. Melges 24 Class Celebrates Laura Grondin, Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year 2025
Paul Cayard and Laura Grondin are your 2025 Rolex Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year winners!
The U.S. Melges 24 Class proudly congratulates Laura Grondin, owner and helm of Dark Energy, on being named 2025 Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year by US Sailing, sponsored by Rolex USA. Established in 1961, the Rolex Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year Award is widely regarded as the highest individual honor in American sailing.
A former International Melges 24 Class Chair and one of the fleet’s most accomplished owner-drivers, Laura continues to exemplify excellence and leadership both on and off the water. Her 2025 season was nothing short of historic. She became the first female helm to win the J/70 World Championship, securing the title in the final moments of the last race. She also delivered a remarkable performance at the Melges 24 World Championship, finishing second overall after overcoming an early collision and two DNFs.
Earlier this year, Laura was among a shortlist of distinguished sailors that included Alli Bell, Pearl Lattanzi Justin Callahan, Paul Cayard, and her steady tactician Taylor Canfield. Her ultimate selection underscores a season defined by resilience, focus, discipline, and championship-level consistency.
We are incredibly proud to have Laura as a member of the Melges 24 Class and celebrate not only her achievements, but the standard she sets for owner-drivers across our fleet. Congratulations, Laura—and here’s to another exceptional year ahead for you and Team Dark Energy.
