Melges 24 World Championship 2025 Kicks Off in Trieste

23 September 2025 – Trieste, Italy – The highly anticipated Melges 24 World Championship officially began at Yacht Club Adriaco today, though no races were completed due to unpredictable weather. Storms in the morning and light, shifting winds delayed the fleet of 70 boats, forcing Race Officer Giancarlo Crevatin and IM24CA Event Coordinator David Bartol to postpone the opening day’s racing.

Despite two attempts to start, the strong fleet enthusiasm led to general recalls, highlighting the need for start-line technologies like RaceSense, which may become class-legal in 2026. Competitors from around the world, including past champions and Olympians, remain optimistic about the week ahead. Racing will resume tomorrow with the first warning signal scheduled for 11:00 a.m.

Racing will be followed live: streaming coverage is planned on the social media channels of Yacht Club Adriaco and the International Melges 24 Class Association, with commentary by journalist Andrea Falcon and technical input from Mauro Melandri. Meta Sail live tracking will also be available.
