LGYC Hosts Fall Melges 24 Training Clinic with Coach Maru Urban
Six local boats from LGYC came together for an intensive clinic led by Coach Maru Urban (@marurban ).
Perfect fall conditions set the stage — temperatures in the high 70s and winds from the southwest ranging 7–30 mph.
Saturday started with a continental breakfast and a briefing focused on starts, maneuvers, and mark roundings. After a productive 1.5-hour training session, the fleet completed three races in 10–17 mph breeze. The day wrapped up with a video debrief and a dinner where teams exchanged insights and stories — true learning and camaraderie.
Sunday brought more wind and more challenge. The morning session focused on boat speed and laylines, reinforcing the importance of routine and planning. With winds building to 17–28 mph, the fleet raced hard until a 31 mph gust snapped the mast of USA 603 on the final downwind. Thankfully, the crew was safe, and after ensuring all safety measures, the remaining four boats decided to call it a day.
Races and practices were efficiently managed by the RC Team, using cutting-edge RaceSense technology by Vakaros — proving once again that the future of sailing is already here.
A huge thank you to the entire LGYC staff for going above and beyond to make this event a success.
Great sailing, great learning, and great people — that’s what it’s all about!
