Eight Bells Toll For 'The Bob'
It is with heavy hearts that the US Melges 24 Class shares the news of the sudden passing of Bob Clark, a lifelong sailor, a legendary Corinthian crew member and beloved Melges 24 Class competitor, multi-national champion and beloved friend. Bob was a big part of the Melges 24 Class from the very beginning as the proud owner of #13 Snow Pile Express. He was also a steady and trusted crew member on Mike Dow’s Flying Toaster, and most recently a key part of the 2025 Charleston Race Week Corinthian Champion team Bad Idea, owned by Scot Zimmerman. Fondly known as “The Bob,” he was truly one of a kind, and known throughout the fleet for his classic calm demeanor, ever-present smile, exceptional sportsmanship and steadfast spirit.
Bob embodied the very best of what it means to be a great sailor and a friend—never one to complain, always lifting those around him with quiet warmth and good humor. His absence leaves an immeasurable void in the Melges 24 racing family. We extend our sincerest heartfelt condolences to his lovely wife Heather, his family — thank you for sharing him with us, and to the many friends and sailors whose lives he so deeply touched.
Sail on, Bob—you were simply the best!
