Worlds 2024: A Message from The San Francisco YC and Event Organizers

A letter to Melges 24 teams competing at Worlds from The San Francisco Yacht Club and event organizers:

Greetings to all 2024 Diversified Melges 24 Worlds competitors and friends!  Some quick updates (in no particular order).  Please share with your team.
• SI’s & NOR’s are posted on the Official Notice Board
• Your entourage of coaches, family, friends, etc. are more than welcome to join in on the social events.  Stylish Worlds 2024 wristbands can be purchased for $150 at the regatta desk this weekend.  The wristband is good for ALL social events including daily post race parties, opening reception, mid-regatta party, and the final night awards cocktail party & seated dinner.  One wristband = One happy soul
• Daily complimentary coffee from 08:00 - 10:30 starts Saturday next to the regatta desk.
• Speaking of hydration, please skip the single-use plastic bottles.  All competitors will receive a special edition branded 1,000ml water bottle.  We have hydration stations starting Saturday morning.  Free hydration.  Less landfill.
• Sail repair services.  Our friends from Quantum and North Sails will be onsite starting Monday for overnight repair services.
• Bottom cleaning - Per requests, we are working to source a local diver for hire to clean bottoms dockside at SFYC during the regatta - details to come. Or BYO wetsuit as the harbor is clean and ‘warm’ (by SF Bay standards) at this time of year.  Reminder per Class rules - only freediving…no compressed air is permitted to work below the surface of your boat.
• Get your groove on as the official Worlds 2024 Spotify playlist is live!  Email us your favorite team song.  All requests considered.
• Traffic congestion on Tiburon Blvd. While adult summer camp continues, local schools are back in session next week. Schedule a few extra minutes to get to the club if driving down the Tiburon peninsula in the morning. Brake for Land Rovers & Rivians carrying our future sailors.
• Trash - If you see random plastic and debris on the ground, please properly dispose and help us keep the SFYC campus & harbor pristine. No MOOP!
• Harbor docking. Teams will be designated to one of the four docking zones in front of the club.  Zone signup will be FCFS starting later this week at the regatta desk.

And some reminders about SFYC House Rules & the regatta parking plan:
• The SFYC parking lot is reserved for members only with designated car stickers. Sailors and gear may be dropped in the entrance circle at the north end of the parking lot.
• There is free offsite parking just a 3-minute walk to the north at the Belvedere playground / community center.  Parking on streets adjacent to the club is limited to 2-hours during the day.
• Tow vehicles may drop boats at the entrance ramps to the dry storage dock.
• All Melges 24 trailers will be kept on the dry storage dock and may be used to store team equipment.  Make your momma proud and NEATLY store equipment at your trailer :>).
• Coachboat trailers must be parked offsite.  There are local parking lots within walking distance for $5/day for trailer storage & daily parking.
• Pets are not permitted on the SFYC campus (the only exception are ‘well-behaved’ member-owned dogs).
• F&B purchases. SFYC does not accept cash. All purchases must be settled by Guest Account or Visa / Mastercard and will include an automatic 20% service charge. Upon arrival at SFYC, skippers/ team leads are asked to provide a credit card for your Guest Account to be used for all team purchases.  See the regatta desk for details.
• Coachboats up to 22’ (7m) shall be docked at the end of the 100-Dock. Support boats >22’ (7m) must make immediate berthing arrangements and may not be able to be accommodated. Email requests to Forrest.
• The closest marine fuel dock is at Clipper Yacht Harbor in Sausalito.
• Extra equipment and gear may not be stored on the floating docks anywhere at any time.
• Shore power is available on the floating docks with standard household outlets provided. Please do not overload individual pedestals.
• Non-potable dockside water is sourced from an onsite well & filtered. This water is perfectly fine for rinsing personal gear & boats. Use the regatta hydration stations for drinking water.
• The use of cellphones and computers is not permitted inside the main Clubhouse.
• The operation of remotely controlled aerial drones or similar devices from, upon, and above club property is strictly prohibited without written approval from the GM.
• Smoking is prohibited (including e-cigarettes or any similar device) in all club facilities and any location on club property, indoors or outdoors, including the harbor, deck, parking lot and lawn areas.
• Skateboards, skates, scooters, wheeled shoes and similar devices may not be used anywhere on club facilities.

If you have questions about pre-regatta measurement, class requirements, etc, reach out to Branko, Carol, and Piret.  Note they are en route to SFO over the next few days and may be delayed to respond.
