Logistics, Accommodations Info for Charleston Race Week 2024

Charleston Race Week 2024 at Patriots Point is marked as North American Sailing Series event No. 4 on this year’s racing calendar. Event organizers recently distributed some important logistical changes for the event this year, in hopes that it will help you finalize your plans to attend.

Please see the following information regarding logistics and accommodations:

LAUNCHING AND HAULING
• Charleston Yacht Club (CHYC) and James Island Yacht Club (JIYC) will handle launching and hauling.
• JIYC can accommodate J88s, while CHYC can handle Melges 32s. Both clubs have limited trailer storage.
• Trailers can now be stored in the parking lot of the USS Yorktown. Please note that the usual spot under the bridge is no longer available.
• Larger boats can launch and haul at either Cooper River Marina or Safe Harbor City Boat Yard. Additionally, Remley’s Point Public Boat Ramp offers free ramp access just across the bridge from the Yorktown.

DOCKAGE OPTIONS
• The College of Charleston Sailing Center provides limited dockage in exchange for a donation to their sailing program.
• Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina has available spaces but be aware of their 33-foot minimum and additional resort fee.
• The Charleston Maritime Center has worked well for some shallower draft boats.
• Safe Harbor at City Marina is expanding its dockage areas and has space available.

EVENT SCHEDULE
• Competitors/attendees will receive wristbands granting unlimited access to Yorktown, including the flight deck which will be open each night.
• Separate wristbands will be required for each night’s party to access liquor and food.
• Food service will be located at the front of the ship and served buffet-style.
• Competitors/attendees will be able to enjoy live music each evening on the Yorktown.
• Continuing in the tradition of CRW, post-racing debriefs will be held daily in the Yorktown’s 180-seat movie theater.
• A Pro/Am event is scheduled for Saturday evening, conditions permitting.
