Despite narrowly escaping the devastation of recent hurricanes that impacted other parts of Florida, the team at St. Petersburg Yacht Club (SPYC) is moving full steam ahead with a regatta-packed winter calendar. Among its highlights is the Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta Series, which kicks off February 14-16.

As the flagship southern event in the 35-year-old series, the St. Petersburg stop remains a favorite for both local sailors and those escaping the grip of winter up north. Known for its consistent racing conditions on Tampa Bay, exceptional hospitality at SPYC, and a vibrant city offering nightlife and cultural attractions on par with Florida’s top destinations, this regatta promises another unforgettable experience.

The Melges 24, alongside other one-design and rated classes, will enjoy three days of buoy racing in the series’ premier event. Adding to the excitement, this year’s regatta will showcase SPYC’s brand-new state-of-the-art marina, featuring expanded slip space, upgraded electrical systems, a pump-out station, and modern concrete docks that eliminate the need for previous years' raft-ups. Updates to the clubhouse, including a revised dress code (so leave the cut-offs and ripped jeans at home), ensure competitors will experience the same level of world-class hospitality that has defined the event for decades.
