Charleston Race Week, National Ranking Series Event No. 3 Set to Unfold, April 21-23

Travis Weisleder’s Lucky Dog returns to Charleston Race Week in 2023.

The U.S. Melges 24 Class is looking forward to another great regatta in Charleston, South Carolina at Charleston Race Week, April 21-23. With headquarters being stationed on the flight deck of the U.S.S. Yorktown aircraft carrier, the event is slated to take on a brand new perspective for hosting regattas at alternative, yet striking venues.

The same good time is planned and anticipated as years past — three days of spectacular racing on Charleston Harbor, beautiful weather conditions and Southern hospitality, free-flowing Goslings Rum, pre-, during and post-racing support and input from corporate sponsor Quantum Sails, the first premiere screening of The Wizard of Zenda — Buddy Melges and much, much more.

For the Melges 24 Class, Charleston is the third event on the National Ranking Series (NRS) with 13 entries. Travis Weisleder’s Lucky Dog is back to make an attempt at a 4th consecutive championship trophy, while several teams will qualify for the hotly contested Corinthian division title.

Steve Boho’s The 300, is not present in Charleston which means the next NRS win will go to someone new. Boho currently leads the National Ranking Series after winning the Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta in St. Pete’s (February) and the Southeast Inland Championship (March) back-to-back. Gary Schwarting’s Obsession is in second place, and Amanda Plewes on Firewater is third. Plewes is also the leading Corinthian team. View Full National Ranking Series Results (After 2 Events).
