2023 is the 30th Anniversary of the advent of the MELGES 24 sailboat. Twenty nine years ago, 29 Melges 24 teams gathered at Key West Race Week for their very first class Midwinter Championships. We took delivery of hull 78 two days before the event (named her “Sweet Beginning”) and had a lot of fun learning how to sail her. After five days of big breeze and chilly temperatures we (Grant, Phil, Bob B, myself) were fortunate to come away with the “Top Amateur” trophy.
