Quantum Great Lakes Cup Kicks Off at Midwest Spring Championship
This forthcoming weekend, the 2022 Quantum Great Lakes Cup kicks off with 15 Melges 24 teams ready to go for the trophy. The five-part regatta Series is a major wind up in the Midwest as it marks the official start for the spring and summer racing season.
With two days of racing scheduled - May 21-22 - so far, the fleet is predominantly Midwest based with the exception of 1 Canadian entry — Mike Gozzard and his RUSH Melges 24 team.
The Muskegon Yacht Club always puts on an amazing event and the fleet looks forward to it every year. Among the attendees are 2021 Corinthian U.S. National Champion Mike Dow on Flying Toaster, 2021 Corinthian USM24CA National Ranking Champion Steve Pirie on Rumbunctious, and hot off a trip to the World Championship this past week in Fort Lauderdale is Scot Zimmerman’s Bad Idea and Midwest District Governor Chelsea Simms on Straightarrow.
This year, the 2022 Quantum Melges 24 Great Lakes Cup consists of 5 events:
1.) Midwest Spring Championship / May 21 & 22 / Muskegon, MI
2.) Bayview One Design Regatta / June 3-5 / Detroit, MI
3.) Grand Traverse Invitational / August 20-21 / Traverse City, MI
4.) Harbor Springs One Design Regatta / September 9-10 / Harbor Springs, MI
5.) Canadian National Championship / September 16-18 / Toronto, Ontario, Canada
