2020 West Coast Championship Series Update

Like so many things, the 2020 U.S. Melges 24 West Coast Championship racing series has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Please see the following updates regarding the three-part regatta series on the West Coast.

The first event of the WCC has been withdrawn from the list. Although the Santa Barbara Yacht Club is re-opening soon and still have plans to host what was designated as Event No. 1 — the Fiesta Cup scheduled for July 17-19, local COVID-19 mandates and restrictions prevent them from being able to host boats from out-of-town. Because of this, the Fiesta Cup has been withdrawn from the 2020 WCC line-up.

Event No. 2 - the Summer Keelboat Regatta, slated for August 7-9 hosted by the San Francisco Yacht Club in Tiburon, CA anticipates three days of racing, including a Bay Tour on Sunday. Even though The SFYC anticipates holding the event, it is pending U.S. Coast Guard permits. At this time, permits have not been issued and they have no specific timeline for when they will be issued.

The last event of the WCC 2020 Series is the California Cup hosted by the Santa Cruz Yacht Club set for September 12-13. This event remains on schedule to take place.

We encourage all Melges 24s teams that were planning to race any of the remaining WCC events, to stay close to this website and USM24CA social media for updates and potential changes.

In lieu of the above, the West Coast has also added a few more events to its 2020 racing calendar, mostly hosted by the Santa Barbara Melges 24 Fleet:

Goleta Beach Race and Picnic, August 29
Charity Regatta, September 12
Fall One-Design Regatta, October 4
Goblin Regatta - Santa Barbara Sailing Club, October 24-25
Double-Handed Race, November 21
Holiday Regatta, December 5-6

To be hosted by the San Francisco Melges 24 Fleet:
Leukemia Cup, October 18 (The San Francisco Yacht Club)
Great Pumpkin Regatta, October 24-25 (Richmond Yacht Club)
