INVITATION FOR THE COLUMBIA GORGE ONE DESIGN REGATTA
Article courtesy of Jay McRostie – June 15, 2016 – Cascade Locks, Oregon – Every year the Columbia Gorge Racing Association hosts its annual Columbia Gorge One Design (CGOD) Regatta (July 29-31) at the Port of Cascade Locks Marine Park. The Melges 24 fleet has participated in the CGOD Regatta for most of its 20 year history.
This year's CGOD Regatta will be a special occasion for the Melges 24 fleet for two reasons. First, it will be one of four regional regattas known as the 2016 Melges 24 Western Series. Second, it will be an excellent prep regatta for teams intending to compete in the Gorge for the 2017 Melges 24 North American Championships.
Those of you who sailed in last year's 2015 CSR Marine US National Championship in the Gorge know that it is a special venue, with typical daily conditions that allow the Melges 24 and its crews to do what this boat is designed for. If you haven’t been here before, you should expect warm, clean fresh water to sail and swim in, postcard perfect Cascade mountain scenery, and 20 knot boat speeds nearly every day.
