Inaugural Melges 24 SAISA Collegiate Regatta Set to Take Place on November 18
The U.S. Melges 24 Class in the Southeast District is ready to welcome seven SAISA Colleges to the Lake Lanier Sailing Club just north of Atlanta, GA on Lake Lanier. These teams are ready to race!
The current plan is to hold a one-day event/regatta on Saturday, November 18 to support SAISA. This event specifically will offer young crew with a very cool introduction-style experience on the Melges 24 high performance sportboat. The Melges 24 owner will be on the boat with 4 college sailors as helm and crew from each college.
EVENT SCHEDULE
9.00 am / Overview M24 boat, intro video, chalk talk in clubhouse.
10.00 am / Melges 24 SAISA group demo / sail and rigging set up ( on dock )
11.00 pm / Practice sail with SAISA teams on water
12.30 pm / Lunch
13.00 - 16.00 pm / Windward-Leeward races for competing teams (planning on 30 min races — as many as we can get in). David Reddaway has offered to support the RC for this event.
16.30 pm / Debrief an pack up boats.
The Class is super excited about getting some of the countries top college sailors well-acquainted and proficiently sailing Melges 24s!
