Weisleder Stays the Course, Battle for Second Place Ensues in Charleston

On day 2, Corinthian Melges 24 team ‘Crazy Train’ with lady skipper Bridget Croke have fun racing at Charleston Race Week

Charleston Race Week marks the fourth event on the 2022 U.S. Melges 24 Class’s National Ranking Series schedule. Fifteen teams took the Charleston Harbor on Saturday for a wild, windy and wacky day on the water.

After two days of racing, Travis Weisleder and his Lucky Dog team remain on track for a third straight Charleston Race Week (2021, 2019) win in the Melges 24 Class. The Richmond, Virginia skipper has gotten the gun in six of eight races and now boasts a low score of nine points.

The battle for second place overall is heated as Harry Melges IV racing Zenda Express posted a pair of bullets and a couple seconds to take over the position from Canada’s Fraser McMillan on Sunnyvale — also the top placing Corinthian competitor, now in third overall.

Fellow Corinthian player Brent McKenzie on Ex-Kahn is 4th overall.
