Ugotta Regatta on Deck, July 26-28

The Little Traverse Yacht Club (LTYC) will be hosting its 59th Annual “Ugotta Regatta” this Friday, July 26 through July 28. Twelve Melges 24 teams from Michigan, Arizona, Texas, Illinois, and Kentucky are getting ready for a weekend full of racing and festivities in Harbour Springs, Michigan.

Registration starts on Thursday, July 25 at 1600 - 1800 and late registration is Friday, July 26 from 0900 - 1000. Racing begins at noon on Friday and boats will be out competing on the water for about four hours during the afternoon.

To have better racing start times have been pushed back to noon on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday allowing for the thermal or sea breeze to fill in for more consistent wind pressure and direction.

On both Saturday and Sunday mornings from 8 - 11 a.m., the LTYC hosts a pancake breakfast. The breakfast is a fundraiser for the program and is open to the racers and the public alike.

The courses for Friday will be windward-leeward, with from 2 to 5 legs. A windward offset mark may be used and a leeward gate may be used. The courses for Saturday and Sunday are “Tour of the Bay” race of multiple legs utilizing LTYC fixed marks and set marks.

There are many shore-side festivities scheduled around the regatta. Friday night kicks off with a private Ugotta Regatta Party at the Irish Boat Shop for the competitors, volunteers, crews and family, including beer, band, brats, and banter. After racing on Saturday, the club will host a party for the competitors featuring the Petoskey Steel Drum Band.

The race weekend ends on Sunday evening as the club hosts a final party and awards presentation for competitors, volunteers, and sponsors with complimentary food and cash bar at LTYC.
