MELGES 24 QUANTUM WORLD WINTER SERIES 2016-17 UPDATE

The Melges 24 Quantum World Winter Series (M24QWWS) returns to Charleston on April 7-9 for Act 2 - U.S. Nationals, hosted by Charleston Yacht Club.

Currently third in the M24QWWS is 2013 World Champion and four-time National Champion Brian Porter, whose Full Throttle was on the podium in Act 1- Miami Worlds.

Early 90’s Melges 24 U.S. National Champion Bruce Ayres’ Monsoon of Newport Beach, who placed fourth at Miami Worlds and 1st overall in last year’s Bluesmith’s World Winter Series, returns with a strong team on Monsoon.

2016 Melges 24 US National Champion, Olympian, and two-time Moth World Champion Bora Gulari on West Marine Rigging, who placed fifth at Miami and 2nd overall in the 2016 Melges 24 NorAm Tour, will again steer West Marine Rigging in Act2 of the series.

Joining this star-studded fleet is Kevin Welch’s Mikey, which was steered by Soling Olympic medalist Jeff Madrigali to finish 2nd overall in the 2016 Melges 24 NorAm Tour. Welch’s Team Mikey hopes to podium at Charleston Nationals, and in the overall Quantum World Winter Series before the fleet heads to the Columbia River Gorge, his backyard, for the Melges 24 NorAm Championship in July.

Top Corinthian teams like Megan Ratliff’s Decorum and KC Shannon’s Shaka as well as top-10 Miami Worlds finishers- Mike Brown’s Blind Squirrel (7th), Peter Duncan’s Jigs in Space (8th), and last year’s M24WWS 2nd overall Travis Weisleder’s Lucky Dog (9th) have a good chance to podium at the physics lesson that is the Charleston Harbor current.
