DAY 1 AT CANADIAN NATIONALS

Blowing S/SSW8-14 knots with gust up to 20 gave the Melges 24 teams lots to work with and each race was steady start to finish. Nothing got in the way of fast racing except for a couple of general recalls every few races, driving the fleet back behind the line.

Anacortes, Washington USA racer Ian Sloan and team on Mikeytook the lead followed by Canada’s Wet Coast Sailing Team from Brentwood Bay, BC, on Sunnyvale in 2nd place and Gordon Shannon, Vancouver, BC on Boaty McBoatface, in 3rd.

For the Corinthian standings on Day 1, Canada’s Wet Coast Sailing Team on Sunnyvale took 1st place, Gordon Shannon on Boaty McBoatface in 2nd and Seattle, Washington racer, Matt MacGregor on Good Enough, came in 3rd.

Okanagan temperatures went from highs of 38C and 2 weeks of sun a few short weeks ago to cool summer showers for the first day of racing, but there was nothing but great feedback from our guests from the racing conditions to the first class Kelowna Yacht Club venue. The minute boats came off the water, the winds eased and the sun came out for a “Cheeseburger in Paradise” Dinner party on the docks with a Mount Gay rum tasting and Tree Brewing Beer.
