MELGES 24 TEAM BIO - USA 775 'JAWS'

Jaws Racing Team from Atlanta, GA was founded in 2010, when Roger and Melissa Counihan bought #125 and joined the friendly and active Lake Lanier Melges 24 fleet. Melges 24’s are the perfect boat for the typically light air Lake Lanier venue, and the ten boat fleet is one of the strongest one-designs on the lake.

Todd Wilson joined the team in 2011, and convinced his then-girlfriend Tiffany, a non-sailor, to join him. Shortly after, Travis Maier, impressing the team with his frequent Laser regatta wins, joined as a tactician. Through years of sailing together as a team, with a focus on constant improvement, Jaws has developed a close bond, a cowboy mentality, and synchronized boat-handling. Todd and Tiffany enjoyed hiking together so much, they married in 2014.

You will find Jaws approaching regattas with a fun and friendly attitude. Big smiles and singing downwind, ribbing each other and their competitors, and cheering the good and bad races. Recent results have shown what time in the boat with a consistent team can deliver - 3rd Corinthian at 2014 US Nationals at Davis Island Yacht Club, 2nd overall at the 2016 Lake Lanier Dogwood Regatta, and 1st overall at the 2016 Muskegon Spring One Design on the new team boat - #775.

Jaws has competed in Miami, Charleston, and Muskegon this year, and you will find them at the US Nationals in Zenda, and Worlds in Miami.
